A Maple's Legacy

Some of you might remember the Grand Old Beloved Maple from this story. And how it became lumber in this post. The life and beauty of this wonderful tree has now come full circle. I give you...

Joe's first project with this hallowed wood: a gorgeous little cutting board. It's simply beautiful. And remarkably heavy! I took it out to the Mother Ship...

I think Daddy Maple would be proud...

Mom and dad had bowls turned out of their old maple when one of the huge old branches fell. Easily, one of my favorite things! Nice job on the cutting board. It is a beauty!

There's something so inherently "cool" about having something in your home, and when people ask where you got it, you simply point to the tree stump in the yard. I remember helping Joe's co-op boss, R.O., and him talking about having the cherry tree turned into lumber for a cabinet in the kitchen. Coolness.
