Help From My Friends...?

Okay, folks - knitters and non-knitters alike. I need your help...

Last year, I received the most wonderful birthday present from Lorena - this beautiful sock yarn. I was in love from the moment I saw it. Pictures do not do it justice. Deep reds, flaming orange and yellow...everything I'd expect from a sunset or a violent lava flow. Just beautiful.

I was very attracted to a pattern from Socks Soar on Two Circular Needles - Columbine Peak. I had grand illusions of the mountains of Hades or something similar - just great, kickass socks. I swatched, I cast on, and the pooling of the deep red was AWESOME. I loved it. I totally knew this pattern was perfect for this colorway.

And then I realized my swatch lied. I needed a bit more if it was going to fit my foot. Unfortunately, the pattern is a 12-stitch repeat. So I had to up it by 12. This is what I got...

Please note that these pictures do not tell the truth. It's not purple - it's the deepest blood red. Regardless - because of the difference in stitches, I now have Ronald McDonald striping socks.

My gut instinct is to rip these out and wait for another great pattern to showcase this beautimous yarn. But I just wanted to get a little input from the peeps...what do you think I should do...?

I quite like them, but if you aren't happy with them now, you probably won't be after knitting the pair.

I would rip :)

I have no idea what you're talking about. It's like a foreign language to me...

What were they "supposed" to look like? What was different about the swatch?

But yeah, if you don't like them, then don't keep them. It'll just piss you off feeling like you mis-used the yarn you love so much.

I'm with Amy....I have no idea what you are talking about. But I did realize they aren't long enough to be socks.

I see what you're saying. The cuff bit does look a little ronald-esque. I like the rest, tho. You should definitely go with something that showcases that cool yarn.

Okay, wait, I think I do know what you're talking about. I came back to try to parse your knitting language and clicked on the link to the Columbine pattern. THOSE socks aren't stripey, they're more speckley. I see how you were not expecting stripes. Is that right?

Definitely do that pattern with a different yarn. Those are cool socks!

And definitely use the yarn with a different pattern. It's beautiful yarn! And you haven't gotten all that far into it, as far as scrapping it, right?

I had some Lisa Souza that looked like a monkey's behind when I first started knitting it up. I ripped, and redid in "Waving Lace Socks" and while I still didn't love them, they looked a heck of a lot better! Deliberately breaking link, so don't forget the second line, but...

I happen to agree with everyone else, RIP AWAY my dear to your little heart's content. The perfect pattern for that LOVELY yarn will come along someday and you would kick yourself none too gently if you waste it on the Ronald McDonald socks. I love the pattern but would use a different yarn to create the masterpeice I know those socks will be.
